During my childhood, there were few discussions about family ancestors, or indeed even discussions about close relatives! There were no hidden boxes of photos, postcards or letters that suddenly saw the light of day. Family folklore was pretty much non-existent.
In the early days of my research jouney, there were many, many brick walls that impeded progress for months on end ... sometimes years on end! Of course, that's not surprising given that most of my ancestry is Irish.
Frustration has however given way on a number of occasions to absolute excitement, thanks to some rather serendipitous finds along the way, mostly thanks to Ancestry.com.
There's still a way to go, but I am pleased with the progress so far, and have decided to begin a blog to tell some of the stories of those who came before me.
